When Calls the Heart: The Heart of Homecoming

The love story in Hope Valley continues with the television special When Calls the Heart: The Heart of Homecoming on DVD from Shout! Factory on March 20, 2018.

When Calls The Heart has quickly become a favorite show of mine, it reminds me of an old favorite – Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman.  You can follow the ups and downs of a small community as they find their way in the frontier, I love how the story revolves around wholesome characters and strong, independent women.  Adding in a blossoming love story makes it that much better!

Let’s take a look at the beginning of When Calls the Heart.

Based on Janette Oke’s books about the Canadian West inspired series you’ll follow Elizabeth Thatcher, a young teacher accustomed to high society who experiences culture shock when she gets her first classroom assignment in Coal Valley.

Constable Jack Thornton, also a newcomer, is not as welcoming as the rest of Coal Valley, because he believes Elizabeth’'s wealthy father doomed his career by assigning him to Coal Valley so he could protect her. Over time, Elizabeth and Jack become closer and begin a relationship.

When tragedy hits the community and more than a dozen of the town’s miners are killed a renewed sense of Hope comes to Coal Valley, which in turn helps the community come together and that is how Hope Valley is born.  You’ll want to catch up on the first 4 seasons if you haven’t already.

Season 5 kicks off with When Calls the Heart: The Heart of Homecoming when Elizabeth and Jack are reunited for a short time before the holidays.
