Exploring a new city is always exciting but finding the perfect view is always a challenge. Our first stop on Spring Break took us to the United Kingdom and we were thrilled. We did our research on the top things to do in London but weren't sure how to take to them all in.
As a family, we decided the easiest way was from above in the Coca-Cola London Eye!
Finding the London Eye was simple we took the Underground to Embankment Station from there it was an easy ten-minute walk. We crossed the Golden Jubilee Bridges to the Queen's Walk taking in the sites. The most exciting part of the walk was as the sun started to set the city lights started turned on, it was breathtaking and better than we could have ever imagined.
Next stop – picking up our tickets to enjoy the view from the London Eye!
After picking up your tickets make sure to visit the 4D Cinema Experience where you learn more about the Coca-Cola London Eye. The kids loved the special effects and I was impressed that the four-minute experience contains the first ever 3D aerial photography over London.
After the 4D Experience, we made our way outside to the lineup, luckily we had fast track passes and were able to bypass the long line and get into a capsule before we knew it. Slowly we started our climb above the city as the virtual host explained the sites as we climbed to 135m.
Fun fact – 135m is equivalent to 64 red telephone booths piled on top of each other.
At the top on a clear day you can see as far as Windsor Castle which is about 40km away as the bird flies. Pretty impressive! The kids could barely believe we were moving, the 32 capsules (one for each of the London boroughs) take about 30 minutes per rotation at a speed of 26cm per second.
We loved our experience it gave us time to relax and enjoy the view. We shared the capsule with another family, who also purchased fast track passes, but had plenty of room to move around and take photos without feeling crowded.
The Coca-Cola London Eye is truly an iconic achievement of design and engineering giving you an unforgettable view of the city below.
