Fantastic Tips For Planning An Unforgettable 18th Birthday For your Child

Your kids aren’t going to be small children forever. As much as you would love them to stay small and cute, they are going to have to grow up at some point. And the first sign that they are well on their way to adulthood is when they hit their 18th birthday. This is a big time for them and you. You will be saying goodbye to the little kid and saying hello to a grownup child! And they will be very excited about embarking on adulthood. So, you will both want to plan a fantastic 18th birthday that no one in the family will forget! To help you get started, here are some super helpful tips!

    Family Day Out

You will no doubt want to plan a big party with all your child’s friends and family. But why not have a fun day out with just your immediate family? You, your partner, and your children can head out for a fun day together. Ask the birthday boy or girl if there is anything special that they would like to do. Perhaps they have always wanted to go to a nearby theme park or museum. This may be one of the last days out you do together as a family. After all, as your child is now an adult, they will soon be a lot more independent! So make the most of their 18th birthday and spend some special time together as a family.

The Complete Guide to Gift Giving Etiquette

    Presents

Of course, the most important part of any birthday is the presents and gifts! And you will want to get your child something extra special to commemorate their big 18th birthday. You should ask them if there is anything special that they want. But don’t forget to get them some little surprises as well! Decorative keys are a traditional gift for someone’s 18th birthday. Even though the 21st birthday is when people are said to get the ‘key to the door’, more and more people are now giving keys for 18th birthdays. If you get an extra decorative key, your child could keep it as a keepsake. This will help them look back on their birthday with fond memories. Many parents also create photo albums for their children when they reach landmark birthdays. If you do this be sure to put a lot of embarrassing childhood pictures in which will make your child giggle! It’s also a nice touch to get your child some unique gifts as well.

    Party

Another main part of turning 18 is having a big party! There is no better way to celebrate this significant landmark birthday. You will need to decide with the birthday boy or girl whether to hold the party at home or whether hiring a venue is a good idea. This will depend on a number of things. Firstly, if you don’t have such a big budget for a party, you may prefer to have the party at your own home. However, if you are going to invite a lot of guests, then hiring a venue might be the best option. Having the party in a venue will also give you a lot of options when it comes to the type of party. For example, you may like to hire a function room and have a disco. Or take all the guests for a round of paintball if you want a different kind of party! If you decide to have the party at home, remember to make some food for all the guests. A simple buffet should be enough to stop everyone’s stomachs rumbling!

    Birthday Cake

How can you have a big 18th birthday without a cake?! There is no way your son or daughter will let you get away without getting them a cake. If you want to add a personal touch to their birthday, you could try baking one yourself. If you decide to bake your own, it could be a good idea to have a few practices go before you bake the real one. That way, you can be sure you will get it right! However, if you aren’t that convinced by your baking skills, you may prefer to buy a cake instead. Many supermarkets sell ready-made cakes that you can pick up for just a few bucks. You may prefer to buy your cake from a local baker. Get an iced cake with your child’s name on it. This will look great in all the pictures from their birthday. If your child has a particularly beloved hobby, why not think about incorporating that into the cake’s design? If your son is a keen soccer player, you could get a small iced figure of a footballer to sit on top of the cake. And if your daughter loves her jewelry, then why not see about getting some iced jewels to decorate the top of the cake!

    Special Dinner

Most families also like to hold a special dinner to commemorate their child turning 18. They normally invite all of the child’s family, including grandparents and aunts. You may even like to invite their godparents. You could cook the dinner yourself and have a big dinner party at home. However, there is a good chance that you will be inviting quite a few people. If you don’t want all the stress that comes with cooking for so many people, simply book a table at your child’s favorite restaurant. It is also a nice idea to take the birthday cake with you to the restaurant. That way, everyone can sample it if they want! Don’t tell your son or daughter that you have the cake with you. Give it to the waiting staff without them knowing. Then they will have a huge smile on their face when they are surprised by the cake at the end of the meal!
