A few months ago I was thrilled to announce The Boxcar Children – Surprise Island was coming to the big screen and now on August 7th it is released on Blu-Ray, DVD, and Digital!! I highly recommend reading the book with your kids before watching the movie so you can talk about the difference and similarities.
With over 70 million books sold worldwide and 150 books in the series, Gertrude Chandler Warner is on the best-selling children’s books series authors of all time. You can download a Boxcar Children bookmark by clicking on the image below.
On the heels of the 75th Anniversary of the beloved book series, the movie is released. There they meet Joe, who is friendly and helpful and inexplicably living on their island. Does their new friend have a secret?

The kids and I planned a family movie night to watch The Boxcar Children – Surprise Island and it didn’t disappoint. As a fan of the series growing up I didn’t know what to expect, you could easily get lost in the book and caught up in the story so I had high expectations.
Dustin loved the movie because the kids were able to be safe on the Island and explore everything it had to offer. He loved how they made their own little museum of all the trinkets they found on their adventures. If you're looking for something fun to do you can make your own museum too with The Boxcar Children Museum Printout.
Cheyenne is also a fan of the books so she was thrilled to see it come to life on the TV. She loved how they cooked for themselves from what they could find on the Island and made the barn into a home. She said it reminded her that a family is a team that needs to always stick together.
