I have the privilege of reviewing Secrets of Meditation: A Practical Guide to Inner Peace and Personal Transformation by Davidji through Hayhouse and I just say what a wonderful company they are, they reach a vast audience and provide books not only for mind body spirit but also catered to the individuals who are looking to get into cooking, as well as many fiction and non-fiction titles.
While reading Secrets of Meditation the author walks you through the book as if you don't know much about meditation and teaches you about the different aspects involved in the different practices of meditation as well as some obstacles you might encounter along the way. The book is set up so you can easily keep your attention and not bore you like most meditation books I have read.
The book talks about:
- awakening to new possibilities
- searching for the guru
- what is meditation – just giving you the basics behind it
- paths to oneness – basically where it gets into each type of meditation that is available.
- experiences of meditation
- developing your daily meditation practice
- frequently asked questions which are well laid out and it is a very informative section of the book
My favorite part of the book is the experiences of meditation and talking about the power of intention, the different steps beginners can take, releasing stress, and falling asleep. I enjoyed the practical guide and it is an excellent tool if you are new or a continued user of meditation. He explains that you might not experience the benefits right away and to keep up with meditation for at least 21 days to fully see and feel the change meditation can bring into your life.
The best part, I believe, is cultivating a daily meditation practice. The way he describes the 10 1/2 most valuable keys to successful daily practice is a nice tool to remind yourself of why you're doing it in the first place and what you want the outcome to be like. I would recommend this book to all people who practice meditation because it can really resonates with any level you're at and allows you to take it back to the basics.
