A pool party is one of the best ways to relax and enjoy the company of your family and friends on warm summer days and evenings. Everyone from kids to seniors loves hanging around a pool. People can mill around, enjoy snacks, and sip cocktails from beach chairs. If it gets too hot, you simply jump in the pool. Here are some tips to help you plan the perfect backyard pool party for your family.

Throw an Epic Party with the Perfect Pool
There’s only one thing that stops you from throwing a great pool party—not having a pool! If you don’t yet have a pool, your first step is to identify your needs and find a pool that’s just right for your property. There are several factors you’ll want to consider.
The pool has to be the right size and shape to fit your backyard. A generic factory-made pool is often a poor match for people’s unique homes and yards. The best approach is to find a company that offers custom swimming pools. Custom swimming pools make it easier to enjoy your pool and throw great pool parties.
How to Make Your Pool Parrty Festive
Give your pool area a festive look with plenty of decorations. Tropical, Hawaiian, or Latin themes are all time-tested favorites. However, you might want to come up with a theme of your own based on a holiday, birthday celebration, or your family’s interests.
With decorations, just remember to keep it simple and safe. Streamers, decorative paper plates and cups, inflatable palm trees, garlands, and Hawaiian-style leis all help to create the right atmosphere. Another nice feature is a decorative pool float, as long as it doesn’t take up too much room.
Should You Go Light with Food?
No party is complete without snacks. However, you don’t want to serve heavy meals at a pool party. There’s an old, debatable adage that says if you swim right after eating you’ll get stomach cramps. Whether this is true or not, big meals don’t mix with a pool party.
Focus instead on dips, platters, and finger foods. If you’re serving alcohol, make sure you also have plenty of water and other non-alcoholic beverages on hand to keep everyone hydrated.
Simple Tips to Keep Everyone Safe at the Pool Party

As fun as swimming pools are, they do pose a certain danger, especially for kids. Make it clear that parents must watch their children at all times. As much as kids love to run around pools, this isn’t a good idea with lots of people, food, and drinks around.
Avoid glass or anything breakable around the pool. Make sure the pool has a large selection of vests and floaties to hang onto for kids and people who aren’t good swimmers. It’s also good to have a first aid kit on hand in case there are any falls or scrapes. Have plenty of sunscreen on hand for daytime pool parties.
Pool Party Entertainment and Game Ideas
While people will tend to have fun just eating, drinking, socializing, and jumping in the pool, it’s also good to plan some entertainment. If you have a sound system, music is always a welcome addition to a party. If anyone plays an instrument or has a band, live music is even better.
If it’s a large party you could consider hiring a band or DJ. Board games, sing-alongs, trivia or pool games such as water volleyball add to the fun.
A pool party is one of the best ways to kick back and spend time outdoors without leaving your own property. Whether it’s a daytime kids’ party or an evening party for grownups, it's hard to go wrong with a pool party.

I think I’m the exception on the food thing. Everyone else seems to want to snack, but playing around in a pool makes me hungry!
Pool covers serve various purposes. They primarily protect the pool from evaporation, but they can also be used for other functions such as keeping the pool temperatures at bay and protecting the pool from contaminants.
