How To Prepare Your Child For Their First School

Online or Home School? Which is Best for Your Kids and Why

The preschool experience can be incredibly beneficial for your child, but it can also be a serious culture shock for little ones who aren’t used to spending much time away from home. Here are some of the best ways you can help to prepare your child for their transition into their first school so that they come to enjoy learning and make the most out of their education.

    Select The Perfect Establishment

Finding the preschool to suit your child can be a challenge, so do your research and look into a range of establishment in your area before you make your decision. Look for a quality private preschool that will offer you the chance to play a role in your child’s early education, such as the Cadence Academy Preschool, Clive, where the team believe that families play a pivotal role in every child’s education and work with parents to create plans that will give your little one the best possible start to their education experience.

    Communicate With Your Child

It’s important that you have an open and honest dialogue with your child about their new preschool so that they feel safe and understand the process. If you don’t tell them anything then they may get scared and panic when they’re suddenly dropped off and left in a new place, so talk to them during every stage of choosing, applying for and sending them to their new school.

    Make Sure They’re Prepared

Give your child all the school supplies they need to enjoy their time at preschool so that they know they’re ready for anything. Buying school supplies is a great way to get your little one involved in the process of preparing for preschool, as they can help you to select some of the products they’d like, such as their backpack and lunchbox. Items that are their own will make them feel more confident when they head off on their new adventure in preschool.

Act Out The Preschool Experience Before They Start

Kids love role play, so enact the process of going to preschool with them before they go so that they can understand what’s going on and feel more confident about leaving. Reassure them that preschool will be fun and give them a good association with the concept by making the game really enjoyable and trying to get them to have lots of fun as you play.

    Create A New Routine

In the weeks leading up to your child’s transition to preschool, make sure that you start getting them into a routine of waking up at a set time and eating their evening meal at the time they’ll be returning from school, so that when they come to start they have the comfort of their routine.

Go With Them On Their First Day

It might seem tempting to drop your child off and let them get on with the process of adjusting without you there, but it’s important that you at least take them to the classroom so that they feel safe and comfortable and less afraid. Stay as long as the teacher recommends, then reassure your child that you’ll be there to pick them up before you head off.

Give your child all the school supplies he or she needs to enjoy her / her time in primary school so they know they are ready for anything. Buying school supplies is the best way to get your little one involved in the school’s preparation process, as they can help you choose some of their favorite products, such as their backpack and lunchbox. Their own items will make them feel more confident when they attend their new kindergarten Christmas.
