I deserve nice things. Yes, I just said that. It is funny the things we think but yet are afraid to say out loud. I have always wanted my bedroom to be an adult oasis, somewhere I can escape or simply kick back and indulge in some chocolate, wine and a good book.

My bedroom has been chaos (and super embarrassing) since the kids were born, whether it was rearranged to fit a cradle or full of kid toys, what I wanted never seemed to matter. That’s what excited me the most when I was given the opportunity for a bedroom makeover I knew it was going to be something for ME for a change!

First – focal point my couch! I purchased this couch and area rug back in April and we’ve been admiring it in our room but didn’t know just how to fit it into the mix.

Second – Picking the paint! I found it helpful to bring a photo of the couch so I could match a good color that would work and not make it look drab. Picking out supplies and paint was a tough part because I didn’t know exactly what to get. Last but not least – the real works begins, the actual painting, but inside your ben & ME bag you’ll find a great guide that will give you tips to make the whole process and work a lot simpler and less work in the end. A few of the tips I loved were:

Tape Trick – heat-seal! By running your finger along the edge of the tape the friction will heat up the sticky stuff and help form a stronger seal

Bust the Fuzz – remove excess lint off the roller before you start! Either use a lint roller or wrap tape around the roller to get rid of all the pesky little fuzz so it doesn’t end up on your wall!

Clean ‘em to Keep ‘em – Skip the harsh chemicals because hot, soapy water should be all you need to clean your brushes! If they’re especially messy let them soak in hot vinegar for 30 minutes first.

I honestly had no idea you could clean your paintbrushes with just soap and water I usually just toss them because I don’t want to use nasty chemicals (or extra energy) to clean them up and keep them for another project.

I am happy to report that the bedroom turned out perfectly! We decided to go with a grey paint and had a feature wall with one wall darker than the rest to really make it pop and the couch stand out! Since our furniture is black it just made perfect sense. Then there were the couple days of reorganizing and repurposing the furniture we weren’t going to use anymore from our bedroom. You would be surprised at how much stuff can accumulate in a dresser over a short period of time. All in all I am one happy Momma! I have a place to call my own and a little oasis to get away from it all.

The next challenge will be to find the perfect saying to put up on the wall because at this point they just look like a beautifully painted blank canvas.
