I remember back to the days of packing everything just in case. Nothing was easy when the kids were little because you always had to be prepared for them to need a change of clothes, have a tummy ache, start screaming because they're hungry while you're stuck in traffic or need a diaper change in the middle of the grocery store. Don't get me wrong I love being a Mom but toting around a diaper bag the size of a small child along with the kids will wear you down.

What I find most humorous about diaper bags is they seem to take on a life of their own and grown past their capacity. At times the diaper bag became my lifeline with extra clothes, laptop, keys and a little bit of everything including:
- Huggies® Diapers
- Huggies® Wipes
- Bum cream
- Soother and teether
- Teething toys
- Change or two of clothes
- Cell Phone and wallet
- Tylenol (for you and baby)
- Energy bars for those hangry moments
- Loose change because you never know when you have to park by a meter (or because your'e too lazy to open your wallet)
- Crayons and a coloring book
- Snack bags full of cheerios, rice cakes and anything else that doesn't require a fridge
I always tried to scale down but then realized it was easier to get a bigger bag or pack the diaper bag AND an extra large purse. I have to wonder how I ever functioned without all of these bags and things in my life before. The diaper bag and purse quickly claimed their own seat in the car, and to this day I still pack the just in case items and my kids are 5 and 9! To be honest I still pack a diaper bag that stays in the car but it's just don't call it a diaper bag anymore.
In all seriousness the things that are most important for small outings, especially if you're breastfeeding, can fit in your purse.
