The summertime is wonderful for multiple reasons. The sun is up and out. The weather is warm. The kids are home for summer vacation and it’s the perfect time to get some traveling in. It’s also a wonderful time to enjoy a dip in the pool. If you have a pool in your backyard, this is a wonderful spot to enjoy long, lazy summer days. However, you do need to exercise some safety precautions to make sure everyone has a good time. Implement the following rules to make sure your kids stay safe swimming in the pool.
Always Have Adult Supervision
It’s always important to have adult supervision. To take things a step further, it’s always best to make sure that the adult is one who knows how to swim. This is especially true if the pool has a deep end. Always make sure that your children know that they’re not allowed to get into the pool if there’s no adult around. Be sure to reinforce this rule so that they understand that it’s for their safety.
Wear Safety Gear
Safety great is important to wear because it can keep a swimmer buoyant if they don’t know how to swim. Swim gear can also be a lot of fun to use in the pool. There are swim tubes and swim noodles that the kids can hold onto and swim through the water together. Swim vests, jumpers and swim bars are easy to put on and are easy to move through the water with as well. There’s no excuse to avoid wearing safety gear to stay afloat.
Stay on the Premises
A lot of children like to have fun and start getting curious about their surroundings. It’s often stated that curiosity killed the cat. You don’t want curiosity to get the best of your children. To help them stay in the pool and on the premises, consider erecting a pool fence. Pool fencing is great because it keeps your children from leaving and it keeps trespassers from taking a dip in your pool while you’re away on vacation.
No Running or Horseplay
The areas around the pool tend to be very slippery. One bad fall has the power to break bones, teeth and more. Always implement a walking rule when the kids around the pool. The same rule applies to horseplay. It’s all fun and games until someone is getting pushed down into the pool and can’t breathe. Teach children how to play in a way that’s safe and fun.
It takes a few seconds for an accident to happen. When accidents happen, it can be a traumatizing experience that people don’t forget for the rest of their lives. This doesn’t have to be the experience for you or those you love. Implement these rules and keep your family in the clear zone to enjoy the summer.
