The holiday season means visiting friends and family that we seem to never find time for in the craziness of our everyday lives. I love catching up over good food, drinks, and photo albums that show you how fast time flies.
What impresses me the most are the personal touches every host puts in to make their gathering just right. But, do we ever think of how the last-minute host who has dirty dishes in the sink, a house full of unexpected guests, and no food in the fridge puts on the perfect party?
I’ve pulled together a few of my tips to help you put together a last-minute party with only minutes to spare. It all starts with a little delegation so everyone knows their responsibilities and you can have the house clean, food prepped, and be ready to welcome your company with minutes to spare.
Tip #1 – Cleaning
Do a quick 10-minute tidy of the spaces where the guests will be, likely the living room, kitchen, bathroom, and TV area. Put away stray toys, throw the dishes in the dishwasher, fold the blankets on the couch, do a quick wipe down of any surfaces like the countertops, and do a vacuum and your guests will be left thinking your house is spotless. Don’t forget to light a candle or two to set the mood and greet your guests with a delicious aroma.
Tip #2 – Food
Keep things simple and fun with finger foods. Tostitos has a ton of great recipes that are quick and easy snacks to prepare for upcoming holiday get-togethers, like Tostitos Brie and Cranberry Bites.
All you need are three simple ingredients:
- 1 pkg Brie cheese, finely sliced
- 2 cups cranberry sauce
- 1 bag of Tostitos Scoops! tortilla chips
Top each chip with a slice of brie and a drop of cranberry sauce and they're ready to serve! You won’t believe how good this appetizer turns out!
Tip #3 – Entertainment
For the kids, a few board games are always easy to put out along with some coloring supplies like crayons and blank paper, but the movie and popcorn are usually always a kid pleaser. For the adults, all you need is a little music, a deck of cards, and maybe even some good old-fashioned board games.
Tip #4 – Beverages
During the holiday season, I like to have our beverage fridge full of bottled water, soda, beer, and wine.
Want to add a little personal touch? I love to have infused water available for the guests. All it takes is a few slices of fruit and fresh herbs. My favorite is using carbonated water with frozen fruit as ice cubes.
Tip #5 – Relax and Enjoy
Now that all the guests have arrived join in on the fun, they won’t even notice the small things that are driving you crazy. Enjoy making new memories, reminiscing over old ones, and the great finger food you’ve prepared! Nothing says party like Tostitos chips and salsa.
There is nothing better than a house full of laughter, love, and family!
Join Tostitos and me as we raise a toast to the hosts who can make any party perfect.
