Summertime is always lauded as the most fun time of the year when all of the snow is long gone and you can go outside without being bundled up. Sports
Playing or learning a sport with your family is a great way to get out and get active, not to mention a whole lot of fun! There's everything from basketball to biking, to paintball. The cost is pretty flexible too. The more simple sports are pretty cheap to pick up and play, but the more extreme activities will have you spending a pretty penny on gear. Or maybe you are more of a DIY family and want to make some backyard games!
Picnics
If sports are a bit too intense, you might appreciate how relaxing a picnic can be. This is ideal for folks who have stressful or exhausting jobs since there's no better way to blow off steam than to sit in the shade and munch on some good food. This one only costs as much as your food, drinks, and gas to get to your local park or -if you're feeling adventurous- a hiking trail or lake.
Astronomy
When it hits July and the sun is beating down on you, it can be hard to muster up the energy to go out in the heat. If you'd like to avoid the heat, give astronomy a try. It's a great way to have fun and get kids interested in science. A good telescope can be pretty pricey. If you want to skip the price tag, you can always try the budget version: Stargazing. You can lay out in your backyard or somewhere with less light pollution and find constellations, or even just make up your own.
Camping
No summer activity list would be complete without camping, for good reason too. It's one of the most versatile activities out there. You can do anything from taking a few sleeping bags out to your backyard to investing in a camper trailer and taking your camping trip cross country. This also allows your family to try other fun activities like fishing, hiking, and exploring the wildlife in your area.
