Need to Get Rid of Extra Stuff in Your Home? 4 Items You Can Donate to a Good Cause

The late, American poet Maya Angelou once said this: “When we give cheerfully and accept gratefully, everyone is blessed.” Her words ring true. Most people want to give to others but often think that money is the only proper method for contributing to a charity, however, there are several other ways. Take a good look around your home. You'd be surprised what items can be donated to a worthy cause.

    Furniture

Most of us have at least a couple of small pieces that we no longer use. Maybe you have an old rocking chair or couch gathering dust in the basement or a small lamp, coffee table, or bed frame stored in the attic. Famous charities such as Goodwill, Habitat for Humanity, and the Salvation Army are able to drop by your home to pick up your donated furniture items.

    Clothing

This is considered one of the most popular ways to give to a good cause, and yet, some folks don't bother and either toss out previously worn clothing or just let it pile up in the closet. Recycling clothing for others to wear is a wonderful method of creating a sustainable environment and is such a useful donation to help countless number of people living in poverty around the globe and for those who've experienced a natural disaster in their community. Used clothing donations also cut down on the huge problem of textile waste.

    Used Vehicles

Another simple item to contribute may be one that's sitting in your driveway or the garage. If you have an old vehicle that's taking up space, then let someone take it off your hands and property. Donate your car to a respected non-profit such as Give 2 Kids. You don't have to do a thing because a tow truck will drop by your home to remove the vehicle, and you'll be getting a substantial tax write-off in return.

    Sporting Goods

Sporting goods can bring a lot of joy to others when it comes to recreation. There's a wide range of charities happy to accept sporting goods for inner-city youth and children and adults living in developing countries. Sporting gear such as lacrosse sticks, tennis rackets, golf clubs, helmets, sneakers, team uniforms, cleats, and balls are always needed.

We all tend to accumulate extra stuff. Decluttering is good for the mind and home. Donating to others is a kind gesture.
