What is a Mojito?
A Mojito is a delicious drink made with rum, lime juice, sugar, and mint. It is usually served cold and is a popular drink to enjoy during the summertime. The mojito originated in Cuba but is now enjoyed all over the world. Adding watermelon to the classic mojito gives it a delightful twist, making it even more perfect for summer.
Ingredients
Mint
The mint adds a refreshing flavor to the drink and helps to cool you down on a hot day. Fresh mint leaves are essential for that vibrant flavor.
Watermelon
Watermelon is a refreshing fruit that is perfect for cocktails. It adds sweetness and flavor to the drink and helps to cool you down on a hot day. Watermelon typically has a sweet and juicy taste that is perfect for summer drinks like our quick and easy watermelon mint lemondade.
Rum
Rum pairs well with sweet fruits like watermelon. It adds a bit of sweetness and flavor to the drink, balancing the tartness of the lime juice. Plus, it makes the cocktail taste even more refreshing on a hot day!
Lime Juice
The citrus in lime juice adds flavor and tartness to the drink. It balances out the sweetness of the watermelon, making the drink more refreshing on a hot day.
Agave
Agave nectar sweetens the drink and gives it a more mellow flavor. It helps balance out the tartness of the lime juice. If you don't have agave, feel free to add an equal amount of simple syrup.
Club Soda
Club soda adds carbonation, lightening up the drink and making it more refreshing. If you don't have club soda, you can use sparkling water instead.
Ice
Adding ice keeps the mojito cold and helps dilute the drink slightly, making it more refreshing and easier to sip. Any ice works, but ice cubes or crushed ice are ideal.

Questions You May Have While Making a Watermelon Mint Mojito
I don't have fresh mint on hand. Can I use dried mint?
If you can't find fresh mint, it's best to omit the mint completely or swap it out for an alternative fresh herb. Dried mint doesn't release as much flavor as fresh mint does. If you must use dried mint, start with about half the amount called for in the recipe and muddle it for longer to help release more flavor.
Can I make this drink without rum?
Yes! This Watermelon Mint Mojito can be made without rum. You can use non-alcoholic rum or simply omit it from your recipe.
Is this a kid-friendly drink?
You can make a non-alcoholic version of this drink for kids by omitting the rum completely.
Can I make a Mojito with any type of fruit?
Yes! You can make a Mojito with any type of fruit. While watermelon is great for summer, you can also use strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, or any other fruit you enjoy.
Can you make this ahead of time?
This Watermelon Mint Mojito can be made ahead of time, but don't add the club soda and mint until you're ready to drink it. If you add the club soda too early, it will lose its carbonation. Adding the mint too early will cause it to darken and lose its visual appeal (though it will still taste good). For a large group, mix the fruit, lime juice, rum, and agave in a pitcher. When ready to serve, add the bruised mint, ice, and club soda.
Do I need any special equipment to make this recipe?
No special equipment is needed. You will need a cocktail shaker, highball glass, muddler, and straws. For crushed ice, you'll need a blender or food processor.
