In our house, we do a lot of food prep because we are always on the go. Breakfast prep consists of boiled eggs, toast, yogurt, fruit and of course Dairyland milk.
But I’ll be the first to admit it, in the hustle of getting everyone out the door in the morning and off to school and work I sometimes forget to serve breakfast. We’ll be in the car and all of a sudden it hits me, “I’m a bad Mom, I forgot to feed the kids. Who does that?”. Truth be told, I’m not alone, and that’s why I am so thankful for the Breakfast Club at school. The Club is for everyone whether you ate breakfast at home, been on the bus since 6 am or maybe forgot to eat before leaving the house.
I love knowing that when the kids get to school if they need to eat, they always have the option. I do pack them extra in their lunches but having the Breakfast Club gives me peace of mind. The Principal prides herself in attending breakfast; it gives her a relaxed atmosphere to make relationships with the students and lets them know she cares. The Breakfast Club at our school is run solely by volunteers and school staff who come in early every day to make sure there is a smiling face to meet the kids as they walk through the doors.
Help Dairyland feed kids across Western Canada
Operating from coast to coast, the Breakfast Club of Canada is a nationwide organization run by 17,500 volunteers for over 20 years. Dairyland is proud to be partnering with Breakfast Club of Canada to give back to kids across Western Canada as part of their 100th-anniversary celebration. They’re doing what they can to help feed 56,881 students across 380 Western Canadian schools every day. That is incredible! 9 million breakfasts over four provinces, and that is a lot of food and volunteer hours.
Want to know how you can help? Head to your local grocer from October 9th to November 6th and purchase any Dairyland limited edition 1L or 2L 100th-anniversary milk carton. With your purchase, Dairyland will provide up to 12,000 breakfasts to kids through the Breakfast Club of Canada.
Parents are encouraged to help out at our school’s Breakfast Club, and many do, I’ve taken a couple of shifts and love seeing the smiling faces in the morning. Some kids come to hang out, have a glass of milk and chat with their friends while others have a piece of toast with a hard-boiled egg or fruit. Knowing each kid can have a hearty meal to start the day brings a smile to my face.
When we work together as a community and lift each other up beautiful things can happen, like the Breakfast Club. Without wonderful volunteers and companies like Dairyland that care The Breakfast Club of Canada wouldn’t be possible.
Join me in volunteering at your local school or by simply purchasing a vintage 1L or 2L carton of Dairyland milk.
