Number One Fan 3 Supportive Ways To Connect With Your Child In Their Teen Years

As a parent, you want to be there for your child from the moment that he or she is born until he or she leaves the house. However, as your son or daughter gets older, he or she is likely to want to establish a life that doesn't put you at the forefront. What are some ways that you can stay in your child's life no matter how old your son or daughter may be?

Try Not to Judge Your Child

As a parent, it is imperative that you set boundaries and rules that you children must follow. However, you don't want your child to think that your love and guidance is conditional upon following those rules. It is a given that all children will make mistakes as they get older. Refraining from passing judgment for those mistakes will increase the odds that your son or daughter will keep you in the loop as it relates to their lives.

Connect With Your Child Through Sports

If you like sports, you may want to connect with your child by coaching his or her youth sports team. Those who live in a small town may find that they are the coach for all of the teams, which means that you get to connect with the community as a whole. This can add a level of general fulfillment to your life in addition to providing you with an opportunity to play an active role in your child's life. If you are particularly enjoy coaching, you may consider pursuing a masters in coaching and athletic administration.

    Get Into Teaching

As a teacher, you will have a chance to connect with young people on a regular basis. This may help you gain some insight into how they think, how they communicate and what they feel about various issues. If you choose to teach at your child's school, you will have something in common that you can use to start conversations or otherwise keep tabs on your child. It is important to keep in mind that you shouldn't show any favoritism toward your son or daughter if you choose to teach at his or her school.

It is critical that you maintain an active role in your child's life in their teen years. While there may be conflict during that period of your son or daughter's life, your job is to be there for them as they learn more about the world around them. Therefore, do everything that you can to connect with your child even if he or she resists those efforts.
