Keeping your shower looking fresh and clean is a task that requires some effort, but the reward of a sparkling clean shower every day makes it worth the time. It is never a good feeling to step into the shower and realize that there are visible stains on the walls or soap scum around the drain and in the corners. The good news is, it doesn't take much work to keep your shower looking fresh and clean. Here are some tips for keeping your bathroom looking good as new.
Change or Wash Your Shower Curtain Liner
Most of us want to keep our shower curtains looking nice and avoid getting the bathroom wet, so we tend to use a liner behind the curtain. However, these liners can have a buildup of soap scum over time, especially along the bottom. Consider buying a new liner or washing your old one on a regular basis. Fabric liners tend to be easiest to clean since you can throw them in the washing machine.
Maintain Good Ventilation
Maintain good ventilation in the bathroom by cracking the window during your showers. Alternatively, most bathrooms have a fan in the ceiling to use for this purpose. This will help prevent the buildup of moisture and mildew as well as keep the air fresh and clean.
Clean the Showerhead
Clean your showerhead with vinegar regularly if it is not self-cleaning. This is especially important if you live in an area with hard water, as mineral deposits can clog the showerhead or even your plumbing. This will also help cut down on mold growth in extreme cases where there is no ventilation or natural airflow through the bathroom. Simply mix equal parts of water and white vinegar, then pour over the showerhead or let it soak. Remove with a paper towel or rag, then rinse any remaining vinegar away before turning on the water to finish cleaning.
Squeegee the Walls
When possible, use a squeegee to clean the shower walls. This will remove any soap scum or mineral deposits from hard-to-reach corners of your shower and help avoid buildup in the future. This is an important step if you have a glass shower door since it can also prevent unsightly water spots.
Change the Towels and Rugs
Refresh your bathroom's appearance and cleanliness by changing up the towels and rugs surrounding your shower regularly as well. It might even be a fun way to change the aesthetics of your bathroom without any major renovations.
Keeping your shower clean can seem like a lot of work, but if you’re willing to put in the time and effort, it will pay off. These tips should help you keep your shower as fresh as possible so that every time you walk into the bathroom, you can feel good about what’s waiting for you behind those doors.
