Making the transition from childfree to parent isn't always easy. When you have kids, your home will look really different from the one you had before they came along. Make sure that you have the right stuff in your house, but follow my guide below.
Toy boxes
If you have kids of any age, it's important to have enough storage for their stuff. Get them into good habits early and encourage the younger ones to return their toys in the box, after they have finished playing with them. Make it a fun game by sorting them by type or color and getting a cute storage solution like this net.
Comfy throws
Another thing you are going to need if you have kids is some arm and comfy throws. These are perfect for when it's time for their nap, especially if they always fall asleep on the sofa. They are superb for you too as you can use them to keep your feet warm while you're watching TV or if you need a nap too.
Doormats
Safety in the home is paramount when you have kids. So make sure that you have doormats at the entrance of each room. This will not only stop the kids from tracking in dust and debris but will also make sure they do not slip on polished floors.
Healthy snacks
As any mother knows, kids are nearly always hungry, so it pays to keep your fridge stocked with healthy and nutritious snacks. Cheese, carrots, and rice cakes are all about 100 calories a portion or less and are a good, easy go to, for when their tummies are rumbling in between meals. Keep the chips and candy for treats and special occasions.
Plasters
It would be nice to think that we wouldn't need plasters but the really of having children is that they will fall sometimes and bang their knees. Sometimes all they need to get up and going again is a bit of attention from mom and plaster to cover the graze. Get them one made especially for kids with their favorite cartoon character on so they feel super special.
Thermometers
Another health item that it's important to have is a thermometer. Kids get sick, and it's important to keep an eye on their temperature. If it gets too high, you should speak to a medical professional right away. Ditch the glass thermometer and use an electronic one like this, which will give you a quicker and more accurate reading.
Baby Wipes
Keeping a supply of baby wipes in the kitchen and bathroom is essential. You can use these to clean the kids up when they have been playing in the dirt, or when they have got creative with their lunch. It's quick, easy and disposable, and no one ends up leaving the tap on for three hours. Take a travel pack in your bag with you to when you go out, to clean up messes on the run too.
