With summer here that means it is time to kick off BBQ season! I'm always looking for easy-to-prepare recipes that add variety to our meal plan. The staple foods we like to stick with over the summer are burgers, fries, salads, and of course fresh fruit and veggies but sometimes it is nice to switch things up!
The sauce on these Wild West Buffalo Burgers is surprisingly delicious, the flavor combo is addicting. This recipe makes four quarter-pound patties that are simply delicious.
Wild West Buffalo Burger Recipe
Always be prepared is what I like to think when it comes to hosting a BBQ and that starts with a shopping list and trip to the market to grab high quality and affordable ingredients.
To make the Wild West Buffalo Burgers you'll need:
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/4 cup chopped onion
- 3 Tbsp cayenne pepper hot sauce, divided
- 2 Tbsp low-fat blue cheese salad dressing
- 4 hamburger buns, split
- favorite side dishes, we love kettle cooked potato chips and a fruit tray
Once you're home and ready to start cooking have your serving dishes ready along with the silverware, dinnerware , and napkins for the table so you aren't scrambling while you're manning the BBQ. A useful hostess tip I've learned is to have an ice bucket full of cold beverages on the deck ready to be enjoyed. A BBQ is all about having fun, eating great food, and having good company.
Let the guests work up an appetite by playing some backyard games like bocce, life-size Jenga, ladder ball, and corn hole while you start cooking!
Wild West Buffalo Burger Instructions
Step 1: Gently mix ground beef with onion, 1 Tbsp hot sauce, 1/4 tsp each salt, and freshly ground black pepper. Shape into four 4 oz. patties.
Step 2: Preheat grill or broiler for direct-heat cooking. Place hamburgers on an oiled grill rack, medium heat. Grill, using the direct grill method, turning once, until cooked through, about 12–15 minutes, to an internal temperature of 160ºF.
Now is the perfect time to prepare your side dishes. The fruit can be nicely displayed on a serving plate while the chips are placed in a bowl, simple yet delicious and affordable.
Step 3: Meanwhile, stir hot sauce into blue cheese dressing. Toast buns cut side down, over indirect heat for 1–2 minutes. Spread cut side of each bun with 1 Tbsp hot sauce dressing. Serve hamburgers in buns.
With the hamburgers ready now is the time to get everything on the table and invite the guests to join you in a delicious meal of Wild West Buffalo Burgers!
