    Turkey and Sweet Potato Skillet

I know life can be busy and the last thing you want to do when it’s hot is cook, that’s why this skillet recipe is one of our favorites.  With only five ingredients you can have a meal on the table quickly and not make a big mess in the kitchen.

If you like quick and easy meals you might also like our chicken and black bean burrito skillet, lemon rosemary chicken thighs with broccoli, and herb-toasted chicken with red potatoes and kale.

Turkey and Sweet Potato Skillet Recipe

Turkey and Sweet Potato Skillet Ingredients:

    • 1 T. extra virgin olive oil
    • 1 lb. bulk turkey sausage
    • 2 large sweet potatoes, peeled and diced into small cubes
    • 1 12-oz. bag frozen broccoli florets
    • ¾ c. Mozzarella cheese, shredded

You’ll find these kitchen tools useful (I've included affiliate links to the products I use at home):

    • Cast Iron Pan – obviously. I have this Lodge pan with a removable silicone handle cover.  I also keep a scraper in the kitchen to easily clean it because you should never submerge your cast iron pan in water, it takes away from all the wonderful seasoning the pan offers.
    • Silicone spatula, I love using my silicone cooking utensils because I don't have to worry about damaging my pots and pans.

Turkey and Sweet Potato Skillet Directions:

    1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the turkey sausage and cook, stirring occasionally, until the turkey is lightly browned and no longer pink, around 6-8 minutes. While cooking, break up the sausage into small chunks with a spatula.
    2. Add the sweet potatoes to the skillet and continue cooking until they become soft and slightly crisp around the edges, approximately 10-12 minutes.
    3. Add the broccoli and season with additional salt and black pepper, if desired. Stir to combine. Cover and allow the broccoli to steam for 2-3 minutes.
    4. Remove the lid and sprinkle the shredded Mozzarella on top. Cover for another 1-2 minutes or until the cheese is nicely melted. Remove from heat and serve immediately. Enjoy!

Quick and easy meals are a must for us.  This recipe is easy to change the flavor by purchasing pre-seasoned turkey sausage, we love spicy Italian.  We hope you enjoy this five-ingredient skillet meal as much as we do!

    Meal prep tips:

    • I like to cube my sweet potatoes and boil them until almost ready, they can be stored in the fridge to use later that week or in the freezer.
    • Pre-grate mozzarella cheese

This looks really yummy. I love skillet meals because they are easy to prepare and not so much clean up needed afterward. I will definitely be trying this one.
