Tips and Tricks for a Stress-Free Christening

Getting your child baptized can be a really wonderful experience. It’s a great way for friends and family to welcome your little one into the world. It’s also important for those who have strong religious beliefs. A christening can also be stressful, however. After all, coordinating such a big event takes time and effort. Not to mention trying to keep your little one happy for the whole day. If you’re planning on organizing a baptism for your child then follow these simple tips and tricks.

    Pick Your Godparents

This is one of the first things you should do, as they can actually help you with some of the other arrangements. You should think long and hard about who would be the best fit for your little one. Who do you want to become an extra member of the family? Close friends are a great option, especially those who live nearby. They are going to play a big part in your child’s life, so pick wisely. There are plenty of ways you can ask potential Godparents as well. So, think outside the box.

    Timings Are Everything

Put together a plan of how you want the day to go. Generally, mornings are better times for a christening. You’ll find that your child is more likely to be awake and alert. There is less chance of them becoming grumpy or tired too. You can then have a gathering around lunchtime, before ending mid-afternoon. Perfect for afternoon nap times! Make sure that the church has the availability before deciding on a time. Many people opt for weekend mornings too.

    The Clothes

Your little one will need to look their best for their big day. As will you! Make sure you’ve got your outfits sorted out way ahead of time. Christening dresses are suitable for little girls, whereas boys tend to wear suits or rompers and gowns. Pick out your Sunday best before the day of the Christening. This will ensure you’re not running late when you can’t find something to wear. Have a couple of backup outfits, in case disaster strikes.

    The Main Event

This is probably going to be the most stressful part, depending on how much your little one dislikes what is going on. Remember to keep a cool head and let things flow naturally. It’s okay for your child to cry. Most churches will have seen worse! You’ll also look back at the photos and laugh further down the line. So relax and enjoy it.

    Post-Christening

Once the main event is over, it’s customary to put on food or entertainment after. Most people will have everyone back to their house, for food and drink. You’ll want to rustle up some quick and easy recipes in advance. If you don’t want the stress of catering at home then consider going out for lunch. Your local restaurant or pub may be a nice choice. Just make sure you let family and friends know ahead of time. You may also want to bring something for your little one to change into. They won’t be comfortable in their christening clothes for the whole afternoon too.

These are some of the best tips and tricks for a stress-free christening! Getting your child baptized should now be a walk in the park. Almost!

I’m glad that you talked about how christening my daughter can be a wonderful experience for everyone. She’s about to turn 1 in two months and we want to have her baptized before her first birthday. It might be a good idea to start shopping for lace dresses that she can wear and reach out to my friends who can be her godparents.
