Did you know that every year the Insurance Bureau of Canada releases a report on the most stolen cars of the year?! I sure didn't, I guess we truly do learn something new every day ;).
So now you are probably asking what are the most stolen cars of 2012? Luckily, I have the top ten list for you:
- 2000 Honda Civic SiR 2DR
- 1999 Honda Civic SiR 2DR
- 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer SS 4DR 4WD
- 2007 Ford F350 SD 4WD PU
- 2005 Cadillac Escalade 4DR AWD
- 2006 Ford F350 SD 4WD PU
- 2002 Cadillac Escalade 4DR 4WD
- 2005 Ford F350 SD 4WD PU
- 2004 Ford F350 SD 4WD PU
- 1999 Acura Integra 2DR
So now you are probably wondering, how does this affect my auto insurance and what can I do to prevent car theft? Well I can't answer for the whole insurance rate thing considering I honestly have no clue but I can give you some simple tips on what you can do to prevent your vehicle from being stolen:
- Always lock your doors and roll up your windows.
- Park in high traffic areas or at attended lots.
- At night, park in your garage or covered area if possible.
- Install an alarm system if you don’t already have it on in your vehicle.
- Never leave any valuables in your car unattended. Put them in the trunk.
A few of those go without saying but really you never know and it is easy to forget or get busy with the kids and wonder, did I lock the doors? Making a mental checklist so you can quickly go over the steps will free your mind to focus on the tasks at hand.
