Strawberry Banana Milkshake Recipe #Dairyland100

With my birthday fast approaching I’ve been feeling a little old especially thinking back to my childhood days. One thing that makes me smile is the memories of sitting on the counter while my Dad made us chocolate milk; it was one of our favorite treats on his days off.  It is funny how the simple things stick with you the most from your childhood.

Who’s been with me over the years to remind me of my chocolate milk days? Dairyland!  Did you know they’ve been an iconic Western Canadian company since 1917?  They’re celebrating 100 years of providing fresh, local milk to Western Canadian families with new vintage limited edition packaging. Now you can remember the fun milk memories from your childhood too!

Dairyland’s horse and wagon delivery days might be over, but their commitment to delivering products of the highest quality isn’t. You’re going to love their 100th-anniversary celebration, full of fun contests and exciting news. Follow , so you don’t miss out on anything.

Our #Dairyland100 Custom Milkshake

To celebrate the simple things that bring us closer together as a family we’re creating new milk memories with our very own custom Dairyland milkshake!  With four people in the house creating one milkshake recipe we all love was a challenge, but one we were happy to take on.

Strawberry Banana Milkshake Recipe

The kids came up with this recipe on their own as a compromise between their two favourites – banana and strawberries.  The ice cream recipe we’ve included can easily be adapted to any flavour you like, just substitute the frozen banana for 2 cups of frozen fruit.

Strawberry Banana Milkshake Ingredients

  • 2 cups banana ice cream (recipe to follow)
  • 1 cup of Dairyland milk (we like whole milk for a creamier milkshake)
  • 1 cup sliced strawberries
  • Chocolate sauce
  • Sprinkles
  • Whipped cream
  • Maraschino cherries

Super Simple Banana Ice Cream Ingredients

  • 2 frozen bananas
  • ¼ cup Dairyland milk
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • Splash of vanilla
  • ¼ tsp lemon juice

Strawberry Banana Milkshake Directions

  1. Combine ice cream ingredients in a blender and process until smooth, place in freezer until needed.  No need to clean the blender, you’ll use it later.
  2. Set up your milkshake cup station with plates of chocolate sauce and sprinkles.
  3. Place banana ice cream, milk and sliced strawberries in blender and process until you reach desired consistency.
  4. Dip rim of milkshake cup in chocolate sauce and then sprinkles, fill with milkshake, and top with whipped cream and a cherry!
  5. Enjoy!

The recipe makes enough for four servings if you’re sharing. The kids love the milkshake straight out of the blender! As a Mom I’m thrilled because it is full of healthy ingredients and a special treat I’m happy to make with them.

  • I remember coming home from school and having milk and cookies as a snack! I used to love dipping my chocolate chip cookies into the milk! I actually still do this! Yep I am a kid at heart.

  • We used to get milk delivered to our door! On days when we were off school, we'd race out to talk to the milkman when we saw the Dairylands truck pull up on the street in front. Every once in a while, my mom would surprise us and put some chocolate milk on the order form. (Though she never let us order those orange and grape drinks they used to sell...)

  • When I was pregnant my weird craving was milk. I loved drinking a large glass of cold milk. My son has always been a huge fan too.

  • I grew up in the Maritimes where they didn't have Dairyland milk. We had a favorite brand but when we moved out west in 2002, we found out they didn't sell "our" brand in Western Canada. We actually went out and bought every brand we could find and held a taste test to see if any compared to the brand we grew up with. Dairyland was the clear winner and we haven't bought any other brand since.

  • I attended an elementary school that served a carton of Dairyland Milk with lunch almost everyday. I'm a picky eater soI didn't even touch the lunch most of the time and was always hungry afterwards, but I became friends with one of the new kids in my class and we bonded over being picky eaters. We had mini competitions to see who can finish our lunch first - even if we didn't like it. It was then that we learned to appreciate the goodness of milk and we looked forward to it at lunch.

  • I have fond memories baking cookies with my mom - the fresh out of the oven cookies were always served up with a glass of milk

  • Sitting at the table with my older brother bowing bubbles in our milk. MOM hated it but we use to laugh so much!

  • My favourite milk memory is selling milk at school during the lunch break. The teachers got to pick who sold it, so it was always a big deal to be chosen!
