I love quick and easy meals, especially on busy mornings when we’re all trying to get out the door early. My Grandparents used to serve us oatmeal every morning because they insisted that breakfast was the most important meal of the day and it must be a hearty meal that sticks to your bones. This healthy and delicious steel cut breakfast bowl tastes great and with the use of your InstantPot is ready in under 20 minutes.
My trick to having this recipe ready to go in the morning with minimal prep by using the hand blender and attachments, it can all go in the dishwasher for easy cleanup. This recipe will serve 8 but can easily be doubled to feed a crowd or for breakfast later in the week.
Steel Cut Oats Breakfast Bowl Recipe

- Non-stick cooking spray
- 1 cup steel-cut oats
- 3¼ cups water
- 2 cups Greek or coconut yogurt
- 1½ T. chia seeds
- 1 T. real maple syrup, plus additional for serving
- 1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and cut into chunks
- 1 cup fresh blueberries, rinsed and patted dry
You’ll find these kitchen tools useful (I've included affiliate links to the products I use at home):
- Instant Pot– this 9-in-1 Programmable Electric Pressure Cooker is a lifesaver in our house, we can have wholesome homecooked meals in a short amount of time with minimal prep work.
- Hand Blender – I love immersion blenders and this one is gorgeous with the stainless steel body plus it comes with a whisk, chopper, and cup.
While Mealthy products are no longer available I still use this set. This handblender makes chopping, blending, whisking and even pureeing quick and easy. You can use it in everything from soups to cutting down on your prep time and letting it do the chopping for you. Check out our Florentine Soup recipe we used the Mealthy Multipot with too!
Steel Cut Oats Breakfast Bowl Directions:
- Spray the MultiPot cooking container with non-stick cooking spray.
- Add steel-cut oats and water and stir to combine. Cover with lid and lock into position, then turn the steam vent handle to Sealing. Select the Porridge setting, and cook on high pressure for 12 minutes. Turn steam vent handle to venting to quick-release pressure.
- While the oats cook, combine yogurt, chia seeds, and maple syrup in a small bowl and stir to combine. Set aside.
- Chop strawberries and prepare any other fruit you’ll be using for the breakfast bowl.
- Carefully remove the lid and stir the contents to combine. Transfer the cooked oats to individual serving bowls. Heap the oats a little higher on one side of the bowl and spoon the yogurt mixture onto the other half.
- Arrange the strawberries and blueberries on top, serve immediately with additional maple syrup on the side. Enjoy!
This simple breakfast recipe is a delicious way to start the day and with only 12 minute cook time, plus time to build up pressure, you’ll have it on the table in about 20 minutes. We hope you enjoy this steel cut oats breakfast bowl as much as we do.
