Nothing says fall like mulled apple cider! The warm and homey aroma from this recipe fills your whole home and it a great way to welcome family home after a long day. It is also great to create a cozy atmosphere on chilly fall days or winter weekends.
The secret to this quick and easy mulled apple cider recipe is the addition of five-spice powder. The traditional recipes usually call for pumpkin pie spices. The addition of five-spice powder in this recipe adds a little something special to an already great tasting combination.
Quick and Easy Mulled Apple Cider Recipe
Mulled Apple Cider Ingredients:
- ½ gallon fresh apple cider
- 1 medium organic orange, sliced
- ½ c. fresh orange juice
- 3 whole cinnamon sticks
- 10-15 whole cloves
- 2 t. ground cinnamon
- 2 t. five-spice powder
- Fresh orange slices, garnish
- Whole cinnamon sticks, garnish
I like using a large slow cooker for this recipe like the Crock Pot 7-Quart Slow Cooker, because it is easy to use and dishwasher safe. If your slow cooker isn't dishwasher safe and you want clean up to be quick and easy I like using slow cooker liners when I know I'm limited on time.
Mulled Apple Cider Directions:
- Add all ingredients to a slow cooker crock and stir to combine.
- Cover and cook on high for 3-4 hours or low for 6-7. When finished, remove and discard cinnamon sticks and cooked orange slices.
- Ladle warm cider into large mugs and serve with additional orange slices and fresh cinnamon sticks, if desired.
For added ambiance and a little hygge at your next gathering, whip up a batch to have quietly simmering in the background – your guests will thank you!

This looks delicious. I like to use organic oranges when slicing them to put into a recipe as well. And I like the addition of the five spice powder!
