Inspecting Your Pipes for Damage: 5 Key Takeaways

Who does not like to live in a comfortable and functional home? This is achievable if homeowners play their part in improving their living situation. For instance, they must regularly check the plumbing system to identify and address any issues that could result in a disaster. This article will discuss five tips for inspecting your pipes for damage.

    Inspecting Your Pipes for Damage

    Get Insight

It is not unusual for homeowners to overlook their plumbing pipes hidden behind well-painted and decorated walls and floors. However, ignoring the pipes does not mean they will always function optimally. Sometimes homeowners will likely experience a plumbing disaster when they least expect it. Plumbing problems normally start small and worsen over time. Homeowners can prevent the situation by inspecting the pipes and fixing any issues before it gets out of hand. In severe cases, they can turn to caldwell plumbing for timely plumbing solutions. The professionals are trained and experienced to deal with any plumbing problems.

    Inspect the Toilet

Some homeowners do not think twice about the toilet system as long as it works fine. Yet, it could have underlying issues and can only be detected when homeowners inspect the system. Many toilet issues are brought about by wear and tear caused by regular use. Some problems to check for when inspecting the toilet are cracks, leaks, and loose fittings. It is also a good idea to check the filler mechanism and the flush valve seal to ensure they work as usual. Note that issues with these systems could cause difficulty flushing or continuous water running, affecting their comfort and increasing the water bills.

    Sewer System

The sewer system is one of the most frequently used plumbing systems. Yet, many homeowners ignore it, hoping everything will work as required. These systems are prone to numerous challenges, such as pipe bursts, root intrusion, and blockages. Such problems could lead to foul odors or sewage backup, significantly compromising activities at home. That’s why they need to be checked and maintained regularly to serve the home without issues for a long time.

    Check Water Pressure

Homeowners need relatively high water pressure to enjoy comfort and convenience in their spaces. Dealing with a low water supply can be frustrating as it can slow normal house activities. Homeowners keen to inspect their systems hardly ever deal with such issues. That’s because they will detect and eliminate any clog before they cause low water pressure. If the pressure is low because of a leak, they will fix it before it causes water damage and compromises the integrity of the entire house.

    Comply With the Building Codes

Homeowners are responsible for ensuring that they adhere to the building codes. However, some assume that once they check the code before buying or moving into the house, they do not need to do it again. However, building codes change regularly, and the condition of the house, especially the pipes, can get outdated and require updating over time. Failing to do this will lead to the house owner violating the codes, and they might have to pay penalties.

Failing to inspect the pipes for damage could cause the plumbing problems to get out of hand and require expensive repairs. In some instances, the system might violate regulations, leading to legal issues. Besides causing stress, such problems can cause discomfort and increase water bills. However, homeowners can avoid this by keeping up with their pipe maintenance practices.
