Grow Old Gracefully Whilst Still Fighting It

Old age catches us all, in the end. No matter how many times you try to resist them, the wrinkles will comes. No matter how many times we dye our hair, it will become grey. However, there is a way to embrace old age as if it were an old friend, whilst still not letting it take everything away from you that you held so dear to you during your youth.

Firstly, that word — embrace — it’s important. Despite what society tells you through televisions adverts and magazine articles: it’s okay to have wrinkles and greying hair. Everybody knows it happens, so why fight it? Embrace the fact that you have made it so far in life and show others that you are proud to have done so. Tell those that are younger than you stories of what the world was like when you were their age. Stop knocking ten years off your current age every time somebody asks. Making it to a certain age should be seen as great triumph of life, rather than an embarrassment.

And as soon as you embrace your age, then you can begin to think realistically about how you can best combat certain aspects of being of an older generation, because there are aspects of it that you should in fact seek to fight as much as your body will allow you too. This includes circumstances, whether they be physical or mental, that stop you from continuing to be active every single day. A common problem, of course, is arthritis. To relieve yourself of the pains of arthritis on a daily basis, try the solutions found here, such as the hot and cold therapy and acupuncture. If it has been localised to your hips, a common problem that can restrict movement, then don't be afraid to try hip replacement surgery. Just because you embrace your age, grey hairs and all, doesn’t mean you have to accept the parts of it that stop you from living a full and healthy life daily.

So, for those of you who are teetering on the edge of old age and are afraid of what is on your horizon — don't be. Do, however, begin to take precautions as soon as you see fit. As daunting as it may be, funeral cover should be sought so that yours is financially covered by you, and not left to your loved ones to deal with. Also, not that you need any other reason but to be nice and do the right thing when it comes to caring for the elderly who need help, but caring for your elders now will show your kids how it’s done for when it’s their turn to care for you. Finally, it’s never too late to start looking after your body as best you can, so that when you’re even later in life it will look after you, so start now!

Old age is something that you shouldn’t be ashamed of, but it’s also something that shouldn't restrict you from doing everything that you want to do!
