Giggling in the Bathtub: 4 Tips for Bathing Your Babies

By Friends of Real MommaJuly 24, 2024No Comments3 Mins Read

The benefits of baby bath time are countless, like the ability to bond with a child and stimulate brain development. The only little hiccup here is knowing how to properly bathe a baby, which most parents have to figure out. The following are a few bathing tips that should help you and your baby.

    Tips for Bathing Your Babies

    1. Be Prepared

It is important that you are prepared to take on this task. For one, you should be calm because babies can sense stress. It is also important that you use a baby tub, or place a clean towel on the bathtub floor for traction to prevent your baby from slipping. Ensure that you use tepid water by testing the water using your elbow, which is more sensitive.

    2. Pay Attention

This can be a never-wrecking moment, especially if this is your first time, but you have to pay attention. Remember that babies do not have a lot of body fat, meaning they can get cold relatively quickly. A baby that cries too much or soils the water might be experiencing discomfort. Cut the bath short by moving quicker should this happen.

    3. Rethink Tools

You probably have a small tub that can be easily placed in your bathtub or a few toys to help distract your bundle of joy while bathing, but you should rethink the tools you are using. For example, make sure you have a faucet from someone that you are comfortable with.

You do not want to confuse one handle with the other when you are bathing your baby. Be sure to consider anti-scald protection, which is common with some faucets.

    4. Dry Safely

Babies are delicate, so make sure you understand this when drying them off. You want to dry off a baby carefully and thoroughly since even the smallest amount of water could make your baby colder. Dry in between the folds of your baby's skin to prevent rashes.

It is also important that you use a hypoallergenic towel, which is safer for your baby. Ensure that it is organic and completely natural like a pure linen towel.

These are just some of the things that you need to consider when bathing your baby. You can talk to your baby's health specialist to see if he or she has additional tips for you. It might also be a good idea to chat with other parents because you never know where helpful tips may come from.
