A great way to express yourself and to express your individuality is to make a fashion statement. Through your clothes, hair, shoes, purses, and accessories, you can let people know who you were and set your entire mood for the day.  That's why I had to share this easy DIY urban tote!  With all of the great fashion pieces available, the costs of looking great and remaining you can easily start to add up. Luckily, there are some great ways you can reuse items, add some sparkle to others, and make a piece your very own without having to spend too much money.

Tote bags are perfect for many different uses. Whether you are going on a shopping trip, heading to the beach, or just running errands, a tote bag is the perfect accessory for any fashionista.

Here we have a really easy way to turn a regular canvas tote into a fashionable must have unique to your style.

    1. Find a Tote Bag

If you are like many households, you probably have a handful of tote bags laying around the house. If not, you can find some at your local dollar store, or at a craft store in a pack for around $3-$8. Using coupons can also cut down the costs.

    2. Spruce It Up With Some Paint

Using either fabric paint or even acrylic paint, spend some time painting a fun design, your name or initials, or adding a pattern you love. Be sure to put a cardboard divider inside the bag so that the colors do not bleed through to the other side of the canvas tote bag.

    3. Add Some Fabric

A neat thing to do to make your bag stand out is to add some fabric to it. Using fabric you have at home or even cutting up an old dress or shirt you do not like, cut out shapes and designs and place them on your bag. You can either create your own design, or even cut out flowers or shapes already in the fabric. Use Modge Podge to secure the fabric to the tote bag.

    4. Seal It With Modge Podge

Every crafter loves the capabilities of modge podge. After everything has settled and dried, seal your design by using a sponge to apply a layer of modge podge over your artwork. This will make sure everything is sealed properly and your new tote bag will survive the elements.

The best part about this process is that it can be completely all about you. Use this project to make a tote that will make a statement and create a new bag that you will be proud to use every single day!

I would love to see what you've created!
