Last week's recipe Protein Peach Smoothie got a lot of great attention and that is what makes me so excited about Nutrition Month and sharing the information on making simple to a healthier life. This week I have a new focus, healthy beverages. Did you know that alcohol can speed up the aging process? I know when I heard that I was shocked, I have to admit I like to enjoy a nice glass of wine or martini every now and then. The aging comes from the fact that there are no nutrients in alcohol, the sugary mix we use with it and dehydration caused by consuming too much alcohol. All of that results in more wrinkles, weight gain, loss of collagen, and elasticity. But there are some simple changes we can make and one of them is substituting what we use for mixing these delicious cocktails!
Carrot Cooler Mocktail – Nutrition Month Recipe
- 3⁄4 tsp Truvía® natural sweetener or 1 packet
- 2 oz. orange juice
- 2 oz. fresh carrot juice
- 2 dashes cinnamon
- 1 cinnamon stick
- In a mixing tin half-filled with ice, add: Truvía® natural sweetener, orange juice, carrot juice and cinnamon.
- Stir until tin is frosted, pour over ice into a tall glass.
- Garnish with cinnamon stick and serve
Cinnamon and carrot juice combine for an eye-opening experience. This beverage has 75% fewer calories and 80% less sugar than a full-sugar, alcoholic carrot cooler. Chock full of Vitamin A and C, this soothing drink is a healthy morning refreshment. If you want to add a little alcoholic flare to it 1.5 ounces of vodka is the perfect touch for a Sunday brunch.
Truvia is calorie-free, naturally sourced sweetener made from the best tasting part of the Stevia plant leaf.
By using Truvia to sweeten your beverage instead of sugar you not only save calories but it is also diabetic-friendly, gluten free, and Kosher! Did you know that 1 Tblsp of sugar = 50 calories, to me that is just CRAZY especially if you're adding sugar to a beverage. But simply replacing the 1 Tblsp of sugar with 1.5 tsp of Truvia you are saving 40 calories! Now that is something to be excited about.
Last summer I made a delicious batch of Truvia iced tea and I have to say that the sweetness of Truvia is overwhelming. I use it everyday to replace the sugar in recipes and drinks. Trust me you'll be happy you did too! I hope you enjoy this Carrot Cooler Mocktail, I know we did!
Stay tuned all month long to get more recipes and tips on Nutrition Month!

I wanted to drink something healthy and this definitely is. The carrot and orange combo gives this a unique flavor and is also great. Using alternative sugar is also great for because I am a diabetic, Thanks for this.
