You know summer is official when Canada Day rolls around! Grilling in the backyard while enjoying a long weekend with friends and family is the perfect way to celebrate our country and the kick off of summer.
A few things on my BBQ Essential Checklist are:
- The Perfect Menu
- Full propane tank
- Cold Beverages
- Backyard Games
- Royale® Tiger Towel®
- Paper plates and plastic cutlery
My perfect menu includes lots of fruits and veggies along with some delicious steak, scallops and of course salads! I could make a whole meal out of a salad so when we’re planning a bbq I always look for something new and exciting.
When it comes to recipes my latest favourites include Green Salad with Bacon and Dates, Jazzy Caesar Salad and Pineapple and Lettuce slaw which can be found at Chatelaine.com.
The biggest hit we’ve had lately is the Royale® Tiger Towel®™ cups, families love how easy it is for kids to eat and not make a mess!
I always want to make one salad that stands out from the rest that’s why I want to share my Aunt’s secret recipe for Simple Summer Salad! I remember eating this as a kid at her house and now I get to make it and serve it to my guests.
Simple Summer Salad Recipe
Step 1 – Grab your fresh strawberries and romaine lettuce from the fridge that you prepped when you arrived home from the grocery store. Fill your bowl with lettuce and top with about 2 cups of sliced strawberries.
To find out my trick on keeping it fresh visit my Summer Grilling Prep Tips post.
Step 2 – From the pantry grab a package of ramen noodles, 1 cup of walnuts and 1/4 butter from the fridge. Heat a fry pan and melt the butter, while you wait chop up the noodles and walnuts then add to the pan. Heat for 10 minutes or until golden.
Step 3 – While the noodles and walnuts cook you can whip up your delicious dressing. You’ll need:
- 2 T Stevia (honey or agave work too)
- ¼ cup olive oil
- 2 T red wine vinegar
- ½ t soy sauce
Combine ingredients in your favourite dressing shaker and set aside.
Step 4 – Remove walnuts and noodles from the fry pan and let cool on a Royale® Tiger Towel®. While you wait toss the romaine and strawberries with half the dressing. Place in fridge while you wait.
Step 5 – Once the walnuts and noodles are cool add to the bowl and toss, adding more dressing if required and serve!
It really is the perfect salad and only takes a few minutes to make! Everyone that tastes it always asks for the recipe.
