6 Warning Signs Your Child’s Teeth are at Major Risk

There is no doubt that every parent wants their kids to be happy and healthy. This is why you will spare no effort in ensuring that you protect your children from various health conditions. In case your kid is unwell, you will ensure that they get the best medical care and treatment possible. When it comes to your child’s oral heal, it is better to be proactive rather than reactive. This means that you should constantly be on the lookout for any warning signs of your child’s teeth being at major risk. Apart from the regular visits to your family dentist, these signs will help you to seek treatment before the problems get worse.

    Crooked or Crowded Teeth

Crowded teeth will not only look twisted, slanted or uneven but may also cause your child discomfort. In terms of self-esteem, your child could be uncomfortable laughing or smiling in front of other people. However, one of the reasons why crooked and crowded teeth may result in bigger problems is because the position of the teeth may make it difficult for your child to floss and brush. This could result in bad breath, gum disease, tooth decay and loss of the bone around teeth.

    Unusual Jaw Structure

Abnormal growth of the jaw and an unusual jaw structure could compromise the functioning of your child’s teeth. When the jaw is misaligned or is shifting, there is a good chance that your child will have difficulty chewing. This is because the lower and upper teeth will not come together to form a bite. The good news is that orthodontic correction can help to treat the dental problem. Failure to seek medical treatment in good time could affect the overall health of the young one in a major way.

    Full-on Decay

In the initial stages, tooth decay will be characterized by small white spots on your child’s teeth. These white spots will later turn brown and then black. By the time the spots are either brown or black in color, the body will not be in a position to reverse the decay on its own. In case you notice the brown or black spots, you should see a dentist for treatment. If you seek prompt treatment, the issue can be addressed through fillings that prevent further decay. However, tooth extraction will be necessary if the tooth is badly damaged. You can get professional extractions in Charleston, WV, and most anywhere in the US.

    Toothaches

Toothache is one of the clear warning signs that your child’s teeth are at risk. This is why you should see a dentist when your child complains of toothaches. Apart from the intense pain your child will endure, untreated toothaches could lead to a bacterial blood infection, tooth loss and even fatalities.

    Advanced Gum Disease

Some of the signs of advanced gum disease include loose teeth, receding gums, painful chewing, bad breath and bleeding gums. Early treatment of gum disease will prevent the problem from becoming worse and make it easy for your child to brush and floss their teeth. If left untreated, gum disease can result in oral infections, tooth decay as well as tooth loss.

    Dental Infection

With dental infections caused by bacteria, there will be a pocket of pus inside the tooth. This pus will form as the body tries to fight the infection. The area around the affected tooth will look soft and swollen and may discharge a liquid when pressed. Dental infection can result in tooth decay, gum disease, cavities and other infections.

Once you notice these signs, it is important to seek the services of a professional dentist immediately. Working with a professional and experienced dentist will allow you to access a wide range of dental services. You will also get expert advice on the steps to take in order to prevent the dental problems from recurring.
