5 Great Things to Do as a Family

By Laura CyraNovember 9, 2019No Comments4 Mins Read

Family bonding is important. As kids get older they start going off on their own and spending less time with their family. To get your family to see more of each other, you should find specific things that you can do as a family. These will not only get you to spend time together now, but they will allow you to form memories that will last a lifetime. Here are 5 suggestions for things you can do as a family that everyone will likely enjoy.

Car Checkups to Have Done Before Your Summer Road Trip

    Go on a Trip

Family trips are a great way to make memories and spend time together. There’s nothing like all piling into one car and driving off on an adventure. Depending on where you live you could go to the beach, to an amusement park, to see some mountains, take an exotic tour, or explore a new city. If you have the money, you could even get some plane tickets and go even further away. When you take a trip with your family it’s nothing but spending time with one another. While you’re on the trip, take plenty of pictures so you have something to look back on and remember it by.

Have a Regular Family Game Night

Instituting a game night is a fun way for your family to spend time together regularly. According to Sky High Sports, one of many kids’ birthday party places in Portland, “Spending time together as a family is a great way to develop strong emotional bonds. It provides countless benefits for both child and parent. Scheduling a regular family game night is something the entire family will love.”

All you need to do is choose a night of the week to have game night, then pick out some fun games. Find games you can play as teams, trivia games, games that make you get up and move around, or anything else your family might like. You don’t have to leave your home to create lifelong memories with your family – a few simple board games can do the trick just fine.

    Start a Project

Another great way to spend time as a family is working on a project together. For example, let’s say you want to repaint one of the rooms in your home. Rather than doing it all yourself or hiring professional painters, get some extra brushes and involve the family. Or maybe you’ve always wanted a garden in your backyard. Let each kid pick out their own plants that they want in the garden, then work together to help them grow.

Projects are a great way to bond and teach your kids new things. Think about the things you like to do or what your kids might like to work on. Then you can spend a rainy Saturday working on your project together and seeing what you come up with.

    Volunteer

It’s never too early to teach your kids the value of volunteering. Volunteers are needed by all sorts of groups, and you’re sure to find plenty of opportunities near your home. This is a great activity to do as a family, as it brings more volunteers to the cause and lets you bond over the experience. You all get to go home at the end of your shift feeling good about what you accomplished together. If you’re having trouble finding volunteer opportunities near you, you can check out this resource.

    Take a Hike

Finally, our last suggestion is to simply go for a walk with your family. If you can find some nice hiking trails near you, you can spend a day or just an afternoon exploring the area with your family. Hiking is a great way to get some exercise and fresh air, and to get your kids away from televisions and computers for a while. This website lists many hiking trails all over the country, so you’re sure to find one near you. If you haven’t hiked before, start off with an easier and shorter trail, then as a family you can work your way up to something more difficult if you’d like.

    Make Family Bonding a Priority

As time goes by it’s easy for each of us to become wrapped up in our own lives. Before you know it each family member is doing their own thing and you barely get to spend time together. However, it’s important that you make an effort to spend at least a little time together as a family. Hopefully one of the above activities appeals to you and your family, and you’ll be able to find a new hobby that you can all bond over together.
