It’s one of the most watched shows on earth, and no it’s not a riveting medical drama, or a jaw dropping extreme dating show. It’s “The Block”, a show that sees teams of two competing at building high-end houses in Melbourne. Every new series promises on deliver on shocking moments, epic transformations and of course wonderful rooms we wish we could live in.
The show has a winning formula of drama, talent, laughs and edge-of-seat suspense. If you watched 2018’s “The Block”, it was no different. There were epic moments, major conflicts and every nail biting thing you can imagine happening on a home building show. It gives us a chance to live the lives of people in this world, without those awful long hours, cutting criticism from judges Shaynna, Neale and Darren!
“The Block” might not be coming out for a few months, but just to jog your memory, here a few reasons this show has us glued to our screens.
The Show’s Format
It’s very rare to get a home building and renovation show that goes on for 3 months. Usually we have 20 to 40 minutes to watch a very staged format where problems are solved in 5 minutes. On “The Block” you get to see it all, the good, bad and ugly. Sometimes a rough time drags on for a very long time. That’s because the episodes are long, and the seasons are long too. It’s an immersive experience that really helps you relate to the “Block Heads”.
The Transformations
When you see what the houses look like on day 1 and how different they are at the end, it’s mind blowing that the contestants manage that. Some of them are complete novices, and it’s always impressive to see what they can do. Seeing their vision for a room actually come to life and look SO good is one of the best things about this show.
Appreciation for the Tradesmen
For any architecture or design to look good, the chippys and other craftsmen who actually build the structures and foundations are important. From roofers to tilers and glass specialists, the show really makes you appreciate the skills and talents of these people. It also teaches you the importance of getting quality tradesmen for anything you need to get done in your home. Looking for a really good person to renovate your kitchen? Scotty’s Voiceovers
Scotty always says exactly what we’re thinking and he always delivers it with enough loving sarcasm for it to land perfectly every single time. He makes an already entertaining show so much more hilarious and fun to watch.
Whether you’re happy with who wins at the end of the season, “The Block” is always an amazing ride. You get to see really beautiful homes and see what it takes to build them. There’s spades of personality and character, and enough drama to keep you engrossed for a whole hour. We’re excited as the countdown to the new season begins!
