If you’re like me, you love to watch the latest blockbusters. For me, everything about movies fascinates me. The storylines, the filming locations, and the actors and actresses that star in them.
In my younger days, I used to spend a lot of money going to the movies each weekend. It was an event that I always looked forward to, regardless of how good or bad my week at work was for me.
These days, with many mouths to feed and little spare time to myself, weekly cinema outings seldom happen anymore. But, that doesn’t mean I had to sacrifice my love of movies! Want to know why? Because I can watch anything I want at home! Let me explain:
The miracle of flat-screen televisions
If you want to watch movies at home, you need a TV. It’s as simple as that! If you’ve got money burning a hole in your pocket, you could always get a projector system installed (just like at your local cinema). But, for me, a 42-inch widescreen TV is both affordable and easy to locate in my living room.
You’re probably wondering which TV is best for you. Well, the truth is I can’t answer that question! You need to consider your budget and the size of television you want. You’ll also have to think about what features you’d like, such as Full HD and surround system, for example.
Take a look at websites like Best Buy and see what offers you can find. Just make sure you don’t break the bank! The trick is to buy a TV that offers the best picture and sound quality for the money. A lousy TV will only spoil your movie viewing pleasure!
Movies on demand
Anyone that knows me will tell you I’ve got quite a collection of DVDs and Blu-ray movies in my home. In fact, I’ve got about eight full-height bookcases filled with them! These days, I tend to watch movies on demand instead of buying them in a physical format.
Why? Let me give you a few reasons. First, there’s the fact I don’t need to go out and buy something! I can just “download” the movie through my cable box and watch it instantly! Second, there’s the cost issue. Physical DVDs and Blu-ray discs cost more to buy compared to downloadable media. And, third, you’ve got an almost limitless choice of movies to select.
To be honest, before I could take advantage of on-demand movies, I had to upgrade some tech in my house. That meant a faster Internet connection and a new cable TV package were the order of the day!
There are several hi-tech cable TV, Internet and phone packages you can buy. Just make sure that you choose one that offers the best value for money. By the way, even if you don’t use your home phone much, getting a phone line is essential for seeking out the best deals. Believe it or not, your deal is usually cheaper by adding it to your package!
Free food (sort of)
Last, but not least, it can cost a small fortune to feed a bunch of people at the movies. It’s cheaper to do this at home. And the best bit? You can decide what you want to eat! That means you have more choice than popcorn, hot dogs, and ice cream.
Last year, I worked out that I saved around $500 by watching movies at home instead of going to the cinema. That’s a huge saving; I’m sure you’ll agree!
