Who wouldn’t want to have more money to spend on things like electronics, gadgets, and other geeky things? The problem is, unless you’re a magician you can’t just pull money out of a hat and spend it. The only option of course would be to find ways to save money so that you can use those savings to purchase things that interest you the most.
When I wanted to invest into my comic book collection, I decided I was going to sacrifice my cable television subscription. Little did I know that there were plenty of options out there for me to consider. If you’re thinking of doing the same thing, here are some affordable alternatives to cable television services.
1. Satellite Television
If you’re not quite ready to say good-bye to all the channels you love watching when you’re not gaming or creating some new apparatus, you could always switch to satellite television and still save a considerable amount of money. Companies such as Direct TV offer affordable television and internet services for interested parties. You can still connect your Xbox One and play with friends, but you can also ensure you’ll never miss a movie or show you’re interested in. If you’re interested in satellite television, you’re going to want to do some comparisons so you can find out why Direct TV beats Dish bundles and other satellite television providers. This way you can ensure you’re getting the best bang for your buck.
2. Television Converter Box
If you’re not really a TV and movie buff then you can cut the subscription services altogether and simply invest in a digital converter box. These boxes hook up to your television so that you can gain access to the public access channels for free. You can keep up with the news, and you might even be able to catch a science or history series from time to time depending on where you live.
3. Streaming Services
If you’re a movie buff, there’s still an affordable way to keep up with all your favorite horror, sci-fi, and other geeky flicks. You can also watch past seasons of your favorite television series. All you have to do is sign up for a streaming service. You can save a boatload of cash as all you need is an internet connection (which is pretty affordable) and a paid movie streaming subscription which would run you about $8-15 per month. You can watch your favorite movies and shows at home or on the go with easy to download apps to your smartphone or mobile device.
I enjoy watching television like the next person, but when the cost of entertainment prevents me from purchasing things I enjoy, I have to make a change. If you’re looking for affordable ways to cut back on your household expenses while still enjoying all the things that geeks like us love, then you may want to call your cable company and say good-bye. With the three options listed above you not only get all access to your favorite movies and shows but you get to do so at a reasonable price. With all the money I saved each month, I was able to buy myself a cool new tablet and even brought a few new additions to my Batman comic book collection.
